[edit]Sources verifying the existence of dialects needed. e.g.
M @Catonif what is 'Epirotic' diff - [never heard of it, and i know many people from there], and from what source? Where is it used? Example of source, @academyofathens, Also many online essays, alas in Greek, mainly on the distinction of 'north' and 'south' dialects @greek-language.gr Here is one in English by Peter Trudgill who mentions Western Epirus under the group of Central dialects. Please, if unsure or unstable source, could you please remove until sourced? Sorry, I do not know any dialectologist-patroller at the moment, notifying @Chuck Entz who probably would have an opinion on how to add a dialect or idiom in any language. - Hello, @Sarri.greek! I wasn't trying to claim Epirotic as a dialect group, the label was meant simply for terms recorded in the Epirus. Perhaps a category name "Epirus Greek" would be more appropriate? Catonif (talk) 15:28, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Catonif, I do not know if the place of recording of a quotation is proof of an idiom. I have not studied dialectology, only what I have read in general curriculum of linguistics for Greek, and I am very cautious on them; Let's hear from experienced linguists of en.wikt. - @Catonif, I see now ζουλούμι but I do not think that a Category for each area is appropriate. When we have a 'dialectal', we add next to it the areas: Here, Crete (yes, it is a dialect -idiom considered as dialect- and indeed has a Category:Cretan. The next word 'Epirus' does not have a dialectal Category as fas as I know. For some words, many areas may be written e.g. dialectal /Crete/Dodecanese/Paros/Naxos/ and so on. That does not mean that we open categories for each and every area. The 'dialectal' Category:Greek regional varieties Category:Greek dialectal terms should suffice. Also, the practice i have seen, is to write with italics the word dialectal and folllow with normal letters all the areas. ‑‑Sarri.greek ♫ I 15:52, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Sarri.greek I'm very sorry to hear you're unwell, I hope you get well soon. I can turn of categorisation for the Epirus label if you want (currently categorising at Category:Epirus Greek), but given we have the journal Ἠπειρωτικὰ Χρονικά [Ēpeirōtikà Khroniká] (in Greek), 1926–1934 with a some Epirotic literature and Aravantinós, P. (1909) “labels/data/lang/el”, in Ἠπειρωτικὸν γλωσσάριον [Ēpeirōtikòn glōssárion, Glossary of Epirus] (in Katharevousa) with words he encountered in the region I would personally find the Epirus category useful.
