Proper noun[edit]

Norton-on-Tees

  1. Synonym of Norton, Stockton-on-Tees.

Usage notes[edit]

Unlike Stockton, Norton is not situated on the River Tees, so it is conceivable that the affix "on-Tees" was introduced by the railway in 1901, to distinguish the local railway station from others named Norton.
