Etymology
The island's name is from Medieval Latin Aunes; it was attested by Pliny as Aunios, from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "qfa-sub-ibe" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF., probably from Proto-Celtic *au- (“away, off”),[1] perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *h₂epó.[2]
