From Latin Ophiūchus, from Ancient Greek ὀφιοῦχος (ophioûkhos, “serpent-handler”), from ὄφις (óphis, “snake”) + ἔχω (ékhō, “to hold”).

Usage notes

Although it is not a member of the traditional twelve signs of the zodiac, the sun does pass through the constellation as defined by the IAU, and some schools of astrology count it as an astrological sign.
