Etymology
From an earlier *bōkō, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰeh₂ǵos (“beech”). The Indo-European root is also the source of Ancient Greek φηγός (phēgós, “oak”), Latin fāgus (“beech”) and Armenian բոխի (boxi, “hornbeam”).
