[edit]From earlier *telksmis, from Proto-Indo-European *telksm̥is, from *telk- (“to thrust, strike”) + *sem- (“together, one”)[1]. Cognate with Proto-Slavic *telťi (“to pound”), Lithuanian tìlkti (“to be tame”).
