Possible vṛddhi gerundive of otherwise unattested *lekaną (to heal), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂lég-e-ti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂leg- (to care for). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἀλέγω (alégō, to care for), Proto-Italic *legō (to care).
