[edit]Perhaps from *me-ms-, reduplicated form of a more primitive root *mes-; compare Ancient Greek μηρός (mērós, “thigh”) and maybe Sanskrit मास् (mās) (variant of मांस् (māṃs, “flesh, meat”)).[1]
