Etymology

From *Habi- +‎ *gaHwáyati (to increase), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gaHwáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷoh₁w-éye-ti, from *gʷeh₁w- (to increase) +‎ *-éyeti. Equivalent to secondary causative to *Habiǰáwti (to increase, add).
