[edit]From *Habi- + *gaHwáyati (“to increase”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gaHwáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷoh₁w-éye-ti, from *gʷeh₁w- (“to increase”) + *-éyeti. Equivalent to secondary causative to *Habiǰáwti (“to increase, add”).
