Proto-Italic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *kʷu- (where). Delabialization is expected before *u, but Osco-Umbrian reflexes indicate restoration of the labiovelar.

Adverb[edit]

*kʷuðei

  1. where

Reconstruction notes[edit]

Whether the medial consonant was or cannot be determined from the daughter languages alone, since all of them merge and in this context. External comparison is required to guess which one.

Descendants[edit]

  • Latin: ubī
  • Osco-Umbrian:
