Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *tuzuq (to indicate, point), from Proto-Austronesian *tuzuq. The semantic shift to "seven" is at least a Western Indonesian innovation. Cognate with Proto-Chamic *tujuh.
