Equivalent to *drobь (“fraction”) +‎ *-zgъ, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrebʰ- (“to fracture”). Cognate with Latvian drabažas (“bark that has fallen”).

Parallel to Proto-Slavic *drebězgъ (“fragment, shard”).
