Etymology[edit]

Formed as *dyxъ (whiff) +‎ *-ati, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *dáuṣas, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰus-, *dʰūs-, *dʰwes- (to blow), see also Latvian dvest (to breathe), Lithuanian dūsúoti (to breathe heavily).[1]
