Etymology[edit]
From *ob- + *skъrdъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *skurd-, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ker- (“to cut off”).[1]
Cognate with Old Prussian scurdis (“dibstone, mattock”).
