Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Germanic *albuts, from Proto-Indo-European *álbʰ-ud-s ~ *albʰ-ud-és, from *albʰós (“white”). Cognate with Old West Norse álpt (“swan”), Proto-Slavic *olbǫdь (“swan”).[1]
