[edit]From Proto-Germanic *saw(w)ą, *saw(w)az, from Proto-Indo-European *sow-ó-s, from *sew- (“to press out”) + *-ós. Cognate with Sanskrit सव (savá, “juice (of the Soma)”), सुनोति (sunóti, “to press (Soma)”).[1][2]
