Laryngeal[edit]

@Angr Any idea what happened to the laryngeal? —CodeCat 22:03, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

They often seem to run off. I've noticed h2's and h'3s just flat out disappearing from PIE to Proto-Basque and Proto-Norse. UtherPendrogn (talk) 22:05, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Matasović says "The short *i is the result of the regular development by Dybo's rule", but I'm not sure what Dybo's rule in Celtic is. The only Dybo's law I know is an accent shift in Slavic. Whatever it is in Celtic, M calls upon it fairly frequently; it seems to be a shortening of long vowels before the syllable that used to be accented in PIE, but since I've never actually seen it formulated I don't know what other conditions and restrictions may apply. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 18:33, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
