West Germanic[edit]

@Rua All the Germanic descendants are West Germanic; should the page be moved to a Proto-West Germanic form? What would it be? *Austru or something? —Mahāgaja · talk 21:13, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

It would be *austrā. But in this case it seems very unlikely that the term was created in Proto-West Germanic. It's much more likely to be an inheritance, as it's not formed by any derivational process that was productive in Proto-Germanic, let alone PWG. —Rua (mew) 22:18, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Mahagaja, Rua: I think given that it's PWG only and it's etymology is disputed, this should be moved to *austrā or perhaps *austrjā. --{{victar|talk}} 01:42, 15 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Old High German: ōstra?[edit]

Where is this attested?

I'm not sure it is. Köbler has a lemma ōstara, I think based on the form ōstrōno and the related ōstarūn. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 13:32, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
