This is missing the German and all other related languages descendants, such as verderben, verderven, etc. Also, it seems that the English word should have been therve. Why has the d been preserved in English? 174.124.49.179 22:09, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Why would it not have been preserved? If the German forms have initial d-, I'd say that's a lot more suspicious. —CodeCat 22:20, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- English generally preserves Germanic initial d- and þ-. English **therve would reflect *þarbijaną. German verderben is irregular, as the expected outcome of *derbaną/*darbijaną would be **(ver)terben, but probably due to dialectal interchange German seems to preserve initial d-.
