Aren't engl. 'stick', 'stitch' and german 'sticken', 'stecken' descendents? 212.17.68.163 10:15, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stick and stich derive from the Old English noun stice, and German sticken and Dutch stikken derive from a similar source, and stecken probably does as well. The clue for the German words is in the -ck-, because Germanic -k- normally becomes German -ch-. —CodeCat 10:54, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
