Labial randomness[edit]
@CodeCat, there seems to be quite a random assortment of labial outcomes here. Should we split this? —JohnC5 06:15, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Split how? What roots do you recommend and what are your sources? If you have a look at the ones I cite, they all note the p/b variation. --Victar (talk) 06:19, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- I've looked at the ones you've cited as well as few others. LIV has only *weyp-. Kroonen has *kʷsibʰ-. Derksen makes no mention of any of these terms. More importantly, *p and *bʰ do not alternate within normal phonological bounds, so these should be separate roots on different pages. —JohnC5 06:34, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- The LIV has *weyp- (“in schwingende/zittemde Bewegung geraten”) and (?)*k⁽ʷ⁾sweybʰ- (“(sich) schwingen”). If we split the entry, I think those should be the two resulting entries. --Victar (talk) 08:10, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
