@Aryamanarora: As you probably know, PII actually has two words for eye, the other being Proto-Indo-Iranian *čáĉšas, whence Sanskrit चक्षस् (cákṣas), Old Persian [script needed] (cašam), Avestan 𐬗𐬀𐬱𐬨𐬀𐬥 (cašman), and related to Sanskrit चष्टि (caṣṭi, “to see”). Avestan 𐬀𐬱𐬌 (aši) seems to usually have meant "evil eye" and given its limited usage and attestation only in Avestan, I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually borrowed from elsewhere. Alternatively, an original PIR *Háxši (“(evil) eye”) could have also been influenced by PIR *čášam (“eye”). --Victar (talk) 16:47, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
