The initial ⟨to₂⟩ cannot be ⟨to₁⟩ "door"

I've done some digging in the Man'yōshū, and I can only find 戸・門 with the reading ⟨to₁⟩ in both Western and Eastern dialects. Since the initial to- in tonari manifests as ⟨to₂⟩ in Western, this cannot derive from the root meaning "door" without some other as-yet-unexplained process.

Findings so far, researching instances of to "door" in the Man'yōshū, where spelled out clearly using phonetic man'yōgana:

@Eirikr Per final *-o discussion, turns out an EOJ to₁nari₁ exists, and the only preform is *tuwanari. In any other case the EOJ word would be *tunari₁ had the preform been *tonari. We know already that this word is likely a compound. Kwékwlos (talk) 21:11, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

I don't think the mechanics of the WOJ ↔ EOJ phonological relationship are fully understood yet with regard to any Proto reconstructions. Also, per that other thread, your proposed tuwanari would necessarily result in WOJ to₁nari, for which we have no evidence in WOJ. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │^{Tala við mig} 23:55, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

• Update: I cannot recall nor find where I ran across ⟨to₂nari⟩ for WOJ. ONCOJ only has ⟨to₁nari⟩ (twonari here, note nothing for tonari here), only appearing once in man'yōgana as 刀奈里 (⟨to₁nari⟩), in MYS 14.3472; book 14 is EOJ, if memory serves.
