Malus[edit]

I don't think Latin malus is from the same Indo-European root; the Latin malus is, I've read, from a separate root, meaning bad. See American Heritage Dictionary, for example.--Solomonfromfinland (talk) 19:57, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've softened the assertion. AHD is a rather outdated source written for a popular audience, but even more specialised and recent sources like Kroonen and Derksen do not mention this connection. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 16:25, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
