Regarding this edit, Serbo-Croatian has:

None of these inherit from Proto-Slavic *věděti --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 21:28, 16 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

In the entry for znati there's a mention of vjediti and veti as its synonyms in Croatia. --biblbroksдискашн 21:40, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Added in this diff by Slavić (talkcontribs), of which Duh (talkcontribs) is a sockpuppet of. Now removed. At least 50% of Slavić's edits are utter junk (completely made-up words). --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 21:45, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Similarity to Semitic languages

[edit]

Interestingly enough, in semitic languages "knowledge"-related words are represented by root "y-d".

So, 'ey-da - knowledge, information,

and with 'v-y' substitution

"vedeti" - "I verified" - in today Hebrew "yadati" - "I knew" - in today Hebrew

Perhaps, this particular root comes directly from the Proto-language :) — This unsigned comment was added by FelixNor (talkcontribs) at 17:19, 30 December 2013.

Proto-Semitic *yadaʿa "knows" doesn't strikingly resemble Proto-Indo-European *weyd- (to see). Beware of contrived resemblances ... --Florian Blaschke (talk) 22:07, 3 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
