In my dialect/accent, I'm pretty sure that "playful" is /ˈpleɪfəl/ with a schwa in the final syllable. We ought to check what some dictionaries say. — Hippietrail 13:05, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

My Australian Macquarie Dictionary also gives /ˈpleɪfəl/. It also gets some Google hits. /ˈpleɪfʊl/ gets no Google hits. I think the old suffix "-ful" will always sound as /fəl/ whereas the new suffix "-ful" in words such as cupful, spoonful, mouthful will always sound as /fʊl/. — Hippietrail 02:44, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
