Calque of Egyptian nꜣ ḫꜣswt nt pꜣ ym (“the peoples/foreigners of the sea”) or nȝ ḫȝt.w n pȝ ym, as written in the Great Karnak Inscription.
Proper noun[edit]
- (historical) A confederacy of seafaring raiders of unknown nationality, who invaded the eastern Mediterranean at the end of the Bronze Age.
