     Die Stinkkatze (Viverra Putorius^[sic]) findet sich auch in dieser Gegend, also nicht blos in Nordamerika.

     The skunk (Viverra putorius [now Spigale putorius]) also occurs in this region, though not exclusively in North America.

     Gute Hunde muß man haben, wenn man ein Skunk erwischen will, und ich hatte welche. Ich wollte aber die Stinkkatze nicht todt, sondern lebendig haben, um sie dem „Seehund“ zum Angebinde zu machen. Das war ein Kunststück—müßt ihr selber sagen.

     You have to have good dogs to get a skunk, and I had some. But I didn’t want the skunk dead, I wanted it alive to tie it to the "seal". That was an accomplishment, you have to admit.
