@ZxxZxxZ, AryamanA: Hello. Could you one of you add the Old Persian etymon of this please? Τιρίβαζος (Tiríbazos), Φαρνάβαζος (Pharnábazos), Φαρνάκης (Pharnákēs), Ἀρσαμένης (Arsaménēs), Ἀρταφέρνης (Artaphérnēs), Ἀλυάττης (Aluáttēs) and Ὑδάρνης (Hudárnēs) are also waiting for their etyma, but this one is the most important I think. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 17:46, 17 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Per utramque cavernam: The term is reconstructed on the basis of borrowings into other Near Eastern languages and a Middle Persian descendant, so the spelling is unattested. More info here. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 20:20, 17 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@AryamanA: Thanks. We do have a reconstructed spelling at Μαρδόνιος (Mardónios), but the word is attested in an inflected form so I guess that's a different situation. I suppose we don't have enough here to reconstruct a spelling? If not, we should remove the term request with - (but we currently can't, because {{bor|grc|peo|-|ts=*čiçafarnah}} removes the transcription as well > Old Persian). --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 20:29, 17 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@JohnC5, could you have a look at the problem I described in my last message? --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 15:45, 21 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Per utramque cavernam: You mean the fact that - and |ts= don't play well together? —*i̯óh₁n̥C[5] 08:50, 23 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@JohnC5: Yes, sorry for not being clear. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 09:01, 23 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Per utramque cavernam: I sat down to do this, but then realized that I don't know what the display should look like for all the etymology templates. What are you proposing? —*i̯óh₁n̥C[5] 07:23, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@JohnC5: Good question. "Old Persian (/*čiçafarnah/)" would look really weird, so no. "Old Persian /*čiçafarnah/" would be slightly better, but not by much... Maybe I'd best take this to the Beer Parlour?
Another thing: I notice the same behaviour with - ~ |tr=. Do we want to fix that? I guess not; if anything, it should throw a module error, as I can't imagine any case where we'd have a transliteration but not the original script... Or could there be such cases? --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 10:27, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
