Derivation[edit]

Does this Greek word really derive from the Venetian language? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Isn't the Greek language older than the Venetian language? 71.66.97.228 02:33, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many Modern Greek words are loans from Venetian. The etymology of καρέκλα provided here is not incorrect, it isn't just complete. The Venetian word derives from the Latin cathedra, which is of course of Ancient Greek origin (καθέδρα). So we have here a reborrowing (αντιδάνειο).
