Talk:кад

The Komi кад («time») is quite similar to Indo-Iranian words for «when» (e.g., Ossetian кӕд), which isn't too surprising considering that a load of Komi words come from those languages. Are these two terms indeed related? Determinant666 (talk) 22:12, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

Lytkin doesn't say anything about this in his etymological dictionary, and I couldn't find any paper discussing it. Maybe @Tropylium knows more? Thadh (talk) 00:21, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Doesn't seem impossible, probably at least better than the comparison with obsolete Hungarian kédig (“also”), ekkédig (“until”) that appears in UEW but is mostly treated with suspicion in Hungarian etymological dictionaries (or in Csúcs 2005). I have seen also a recentish, 00s I think, claim for loaning from (some dialectal variant of?)
