Ohanoğlu

[edit]

@Vahagn Petrosyan Hi. Is this surname a Turkified version of the Armenian surname Օհանյան, or derives directly from the Armenian given name Օհան, plus the Turkish patronymic suffix -oğlu? In Greek it's "Οχάνογλου", found in the Athens suburb of Palaio Faliro, where a lot of Greeks form Constantinople live, mostly people who fled Turkey after the September 1955 Pogrom against the Greek minority of the city. @Chalk19: The same person could write his surname as Օհանյան (Ōhanyan) in Armenian and "translate" it to Ohanoğlu when writing in Turkish and to Ога́нов (Ogánov) when writing in Russian. I would treat Ohanoğlu as a Turkification of Օհանյան (Ōhanyan). Vahag (talk) 17:25, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
