Etymology[edit]

According to Nişanyan, the Arabic word is borrowed brom Aramaic בחרנא (bəḥrānā, test, turning point of disease progression, crisis) which should be derived from בְּחַר (bəḥar, judging, testing) which is a semantic calque of Ancient Greek κρίσις (krísis).
