Etymology

According to Nişanyan, the Arabic word is borrowed brom Aramaic בחרנא (bəḥrānā, “test, turning point of disease progression, crisis”) which should be derived from בְּחַר (bəḥar, “judging, testing”) which is a semantic calque of Ancient Greek κρίσις (krísis).
