Why does Sanskrit have a word for surfboard? --Eean 00:19, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

It may not be a classical Sanskrit word, but it seems to be well-formed—it's a compound meaning "wave" (taraṃga) + "board" (phalaka). Now, whether modern Sanskritists actually use this word, or whether someone just made it up for novelty value... I don't know that much. —Muke Tever 01:52, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'm not all that against the spoken Sanskrit (such as the one in Mattur; there's even this site where you can look up words such as (deprecated template usage) cellphone), but I'd rather that these pass normal RfV process, rather than be entered on hear-write evidence which would be impossible to distinguish from literally translated protologisms (which this most likely is) --Ivan Štambuk 02:56, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
