@JainismWikipedian, माधवपंडित I think we should only provide the verb class if the verb is a present-tense verb, since verbs of other tenses aren't affected by the verb classes. I've removed it from this entry. What do you think? —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 18:54, 15 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Adding verb class on all verbs (what includes all verbs is given below) is needed for two reasons:
  • It helps to automatically categorize the page into "Sanskrit verbs of class x". In its absence, the verb would be categorized with the category "Sanskrit verbs of class" which is absurb.
  • Also, we can know literally each and every verb ever in existence from such category.
  • Also, such addition of class will help future students to search on wikitionary any Sanskrit verb and easily know its recognized form.

Of course, we would be adding template "sa-verb" only on verbs (lemma), i.e. the active voice 3rd person singular form of present tense, imperfect past tense, perfect past tense, aorist aspect, simple future, periphrastic future, desiderative, and causative. Thus, by default, we would be adding class information only on these types of verb pages. Anyway there won't be any and shouldn't be any class information on non-lemma forms. So it's okay to add class on lemma verbs pages. --JainismWikipedian (talk) 20:42, 15 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

@JainismWikipedian: First point is not an issue anymore, I fixed that. It doesn't categorize if no class is given.
You are definitely correct that tenses besides the present are affected by class, I made a mistake there. But, the perfect is not affected by the class. For example the root भी (bhī) has cl. 3 present बिभेति (bibheti), cl. 1 present भयते (bhayate), and cl. 10 भाययति (bhāyayati). But, बिभाय (bibhāya) is the only perfect verb for the root and it doesn't have a specific class, so I don't think it makes sense to mention a class for it. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 21:08, 15 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
No, there are different forms for different classes for same root's perfect past, like for:
* पृ (3 P), perfect is ― पपार
* पृ (6 A), perfect is ― पप्रे --JainismWikipedian (talk) 17:47, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
@JainismWikipedian: That is not because of the class, that is just because one is parasmaipada and the other is ātmanepada. The exact same endings exist for भृ (bhṛ):
So I still believe having the class is unnecessary information. Also @Bhagadatta, I mis-pinged earlier. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 20:42, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
@AryamanA: Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I agree with you; I have only seen verb classes for present tense verbs. Forms like बिभाय (bibhāya) have no class, so I believe. -- Bhagadatta (talk) 02:27, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
