ആലം / അളം

[edit]

@Vis M Hi, I think 'etymology 2' of both ആലം and അളം should be merged (with one of them an 'alternative form of'), but I'm not sure what would be the best way to do it. Exarchus (talk) 18:46, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Exarchus: Hi, nice find! However, these two words are not exactly alternate forms, instead they can be considered as doublets. So I have marked them both with {{doublet}}.
The mentioned word അളം (aḷaṁ) is very important in that the eponymous word Malayalam and Keralam are derived from it. According to some sources, second part (-al, meaning abode or place) of some other important words like Sinhala, Nepal and Bengal are also said to have the same root. Thank you! Another word അലം (alaṁ) is actually an {{alternative form of}} ആലം (ālaṁ) (in Sanskrit too), so I have added to it. Vis M (talk) 21:36, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
