Is the ほら part equal to hora ("boast")? (sorry, not sure of the kanji) —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:58, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, yes, it is. --Haplology (talk) 07:30, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I didn't mean that to sound curt. I was working through some of my own confusion regarding that word so I couldn't really say anything more definitive at the time than that. I'm still not completely sure about the etymology, but at this point I believe that this word is a compound of 法螺 (ほら, boast) and . I think that the conch literally called "boast-shellfish" 法螺貝 was named after this word, not that this word is "conch-talk." --Haplology (talk) 19:40, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, and if you could create 法螺 that would be great. (Was that rude? I dunno.) —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 20:49, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
