@Suzukaze-c Just curious, what source did you use for this? Thanks! --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:32, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser (This must have been from when ping was broken) Wikipedia, and nothing else... —suzukaze (tc) 08:14, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Suzukaze-c: or @Fish bowl: I'm very doubtful of the entry here. I know 常來 exists, as recorded in the Boxer Index, but 常來人? And the idea that it comes from 生理人? I feel like it's a bit unfounded. Tagging @Justinrleung here too in case you have thoughts. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:05, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: I've added three quotes that I could find in Citations:常來人. "From 生理人" is probably not quite right because it assumes that that is the original word, but I don't think we're sure? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 18:53, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Fish bowl: @Justinrleung: Yeah 常來人 and 生理人 are two separate ideas, no indication that one comes from another. I think both exist since originally the prevailing thought was that the word Sangley originated from 生理. That was the more popular idea before, but slowly it became more known that the word 常來 is used as a label in the Boxer Codex, which is siâng-lâi in Zhangzhou Hokkien. I say remove the etymology since it's dubious. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 02:31, 19 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
