1 Literary Reference 2 Does this word refer to the other white poplars?[edit]
1 I have been led to believe that white poplar is a literary allusion in mainland China with a deeper meaning, but I don't really understand the allusion. The first of the sixty potential reading-aloud texts for the w:Putonghua Proficiency Test is derived from a 1941 article by w:Mao Dun which discusses w:White poplar as a seeming metaphor for some portion of the Chinese people. 2 Also, not sure if this word refers to the other varieties/species of white poplar. It seems like it must at very least it must refer to Populus tomentosa, and for that reason, I added Populus tomentosa to the page yesterday. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 10:34, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
