"chiefly Wu"[edit]

@Justinrleung What does "chiefly" refer to? Who outside of Wu uses this? —Fish bowl (talk) 01:19, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Fish bowl: Regional Mandarin (or some kind of 三及第) and some kind of humorous Cantonese, as seen in the quotes. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 06:22, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Justinrleung: Usage in Cantonese is more widespread than this one quote? :o
because I wonder if calling it "Mandarin" or "Cantonese" is appropriate (via the "chiefly" label) if it's more like, throwing in terms known by everyone to be Shanghainese just for special effect. —Fish bowl (talk) 15:00, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Fish bowl: For Cantonese, I don’t know tbh, probably a one time thing. The chiefly label is to point to the possibility of use in other varieties for a Shanghainese effect. I don’t see how that would be problematic. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 18:13, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
