Two pronunciations and, probably, etymologies[edit]

  • There's -īlis, which forms adjectives from nouns, such as puerīlis from puer
  • And there's -ĭlis, which forms nouns from verbs, such as fragilis from frangō (not occasional; it's fairly common: docilis, agilis, etc.)
