The definitions for the French and Dutch sections were copied verbatim from an earlier version of the English section. The part I have trouble with is:
- A diminutive of the female given name Abigail
While I don't doubt that the the names Abby and Abigail exist in both languages (at least as borrowings), I'm skeptical that they're related to each other in exactly the same way as in English in both languages. For instance, I don't think doubling a consonant and adding y is a normal way of forming Dutch diminutives- though I could certainly be wrong. Could someone who knows about names in these languages either confirm that Abby is a diminutive of Abigail in those languages, or correct the definitions?
