Talk:Henan
You might think that Shanxi and Shaanxi are the most commonly confused provinces in China when it comes to English speakers. But I don't think so- the double 'aa' is so absurd looking that English speakers remember it when they see it. I think that Hebei/Hubei or Henan/Hunan are going to be the most commonly confused pairs. Here's an example of a BBC broadcaster very clearly saying Hunan when she obviously means Henan: 0:08. In my experience, foreigners in Wuhan that don't speak Mandarin often set Hebei as their location on WeChat. I don't really know how to use Wiktionary to assist English speakers with this problem, but I think something should be done- like a "not to be confused with". It seems absurd, but I want to (1) confirm that this is a common confusion and (2) take some measure to alert people that this is a common problem. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 17:11, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
