This is an irregularly derived form from Wade-Giles. T'ai-p'ing is the expected scholarly form that would be seen in journals, and Tai-ping is the expected reduced form of that that would be seen in sophisticated journalism, with Taiping being the totally cleaned-out version. Tai-p'ing implied the Hanyu Pinyin sound "Daiping". However, I have seen examples of Tai-p'ing on archive.org, so this may be a mistaken derivation that took on a life of its own, like K'o-shih. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 01:21, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
