Acres: possible obsolete slang[edit]

John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) defines Acres (capitalised?) as "a coward", after the character of Bob Acres in Sheridan's The Rivals. Whether it's also a real surname I don't know, though I have seen Akers. Equinox 11:32, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
