A partridge-like galliform bird is probably what aparo refers to. I'm not sure which of the half-dozen species is most likely for Nigeria, but the same word probably would cover all the species, possibly with modifiers for color or other distinguishing features. - @DCDuring: I don't think this refers to guinea fowls. See this website, where aparo is defined as "bush fowl", in contrast to the words for "guinea fowl". —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 02:43, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- Two kinds of guineafowl in Nigeria, AFAICT. helmeted guineafowl is "large" (turkey), black guineafowl is "medium", somewhat cryptic, and forest-dwelling. These differences might account for two different words. OTOH, there are lots of species in Phasianidae. DCDuring (talk) 03:03, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
