Can it still mean cellphone?

The Dragostea din Tei song used beep to mean a cellphone, in the lyric Picasso, / ți-am dat beep, and this is in the middle of the line, so it wasnt just chosen for rhyme. I assumed this was a word for cellphone in Romanian, perhaps one that quickly went out of fashion, but would still be worth listing if it's real.
