    page 319:Occasionally, "berdaches" of one biological sex were mroe accepted than those of the other sex. Women-men were regarded indifferently among the Achomawi and Atsugewi, but female "berdaches" were regarded negatively among the latter (Voegelin 1942:134f).
    page 322: Finally, in Northern California, the Atsugewi brumaiwi — who were more masculine women than men-women, and who could perform the tasks of both sexes — were disapproved of by the community (Voegelin 1942:135).
