Etymology: second part[edit]
The bit about nails being hammered into doors: is this really "plausible"? After all, "dead as a doornail" doesn't mean "fully hammered down"; it means "dead", like an inanimate nail. Equinox ◑ 01:13, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
