felled sounds silly. how can it be the past tense of fell when fell is the past tense???? has anyone ever previously felled in your life.

It is the past tense of the verb "to fell", not related (directly) to the verb "fall" which "fell" is the past tense of. Some examples:
He felled six trees before lunch time today - whereas the present tense usage would be I fell trees for a living - [The]DaveRoss 03:50, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

To fell a tree[edit]

This is the past of what lumberjacks used to do all the time and still do in some places. Check it out in another dictionary if you don't believe us. You could have asked a question or checked a reference. DCDuring TALK 03:51, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
